Joshua Tsavatewa is a Hopi Indian, of the Rabbit and Tobacco Clan, and was born in Indiana. He grew up in North Carolina and Georgia. Joshua was raised by a single mother who overcame a lot of challenges. His mother dropped out of school after sixth grade, but later became the first college graduate in her family when she received her degree in Social Work. Joshua received a full academic scholarship to attend Mercer University and graduated with a BA in History while being active in RUF. He then went to Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), with the intention of pursuing a PhD in History after graduation. However, God had other plans. It was at RTS that Joshua first felt called to work with the poor. After receiving his MA in Theological Studies, Joshua joined Sacred Road Ministries on the Yakama Indian Reservation as the Children’s Ministry Director in 2010. In 2019, he was ordained in the Pacific Northwest Presbytery as the third Native American Pastor in the PCA. Joshua has a passion for Native communities and those in impoverished situations. He longs to see strong, healthy Native Churches.
