Intern: 2006-2008, Trinity Church Seattle
Where were you in your process of ministry development?
In seminary
I viewed internships as the “laboratory” to the seminary classroom. As a seminary student, you spent most of the year in the classroom, studying and learning new material, which is great. But the internship was the real-life laboratory where you got to practice and test that learning in a safe setting with advanced practitioners. The internship was much needed boots on the ground experience.
Any highlights from your experience?
I’m sure I preached my worst sermons as an intern. Sounds like an odd highlight but it was a safe environment to fail in and to learn, be encouraged, and try again. That was invaluable.
What are you doing now?
