The Response

The Northwest Church Planting Network, alongside other communions in the region, has been responding to God’s call for over a decade now. Although the work seems like it has only just begun, it as actually begun again. In the 1890s God called Rev. Mark Matthews, a firebrand biblical Calvinist and social reformer, to Seattle First Presbyterian Church. Over the next 40 years he brought the Gospel to bear in his city through good deeds and church planting.

A century later the Church had been marginalized, in some measure because it forgot its biblical roots, including the mission of continually planting new churches to meet the challenges and embrace the new inhabitants of a changing region. Now the region is home to over 10,000,000 souls. The field is bigger and the Church is on the margins in many ways, but the Gospel is the same. And so is the mission.

To respond to his call, we are asking God to raise partnering congregations around the country and most importantly, calling men and women to help us lay a foundation of church plants that in turn plant churches. Our prayer is that a multigenerational movement of church planting will change the Northwest's reputation. A place this majestic should be known for its vital and loving churches whose message of Grace is more beautiful than the mountains.

Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
